Programming on the proposed station, while readily accessible to all listeners in the proposed service area, will be designed in particular to reach traditionally underserved members of our community, particularly minorities and lower-income families. As stated in our Articles of Association, our organization was established to advance the interests of low and moderate income people through training, education and the inspiration and mobilization which such training and education cultivates. A majority of our officers and overall membership are minority and low-income persons whose involvement in the station will enhance access to the airwaves to those groups.
An essential element of the station's proposed programming will be non-entertainment programming to educate listeners both about community issues generally and about how listeners can become involved in community improvement efforts. The applicant and its members have historically been involved in such efforts and plan to use the station as an opportunity to inform and educate the public about a wide range of locally-oriented matters.
We plan to air locally produced programming to address community issues and encourage listeners to seek assistance of join efforts to improve their community. Our members have been involved in an extensive variety of local community improvement efforts that include: vacant lot clean up, improved rental housing conditions, increasing minority homeownership, assisting victims of predatory lending, and providing volunteer income tax assistance. We plan to address these issues - and other, similarly local, issues - through talk shows, public service announcements and news programming.
